VIDOR LITERACY ORGANIZATION
Working Towards a Brighter Future through Literacy
The Vidor Literacy Organization aims to promote and support literacy throughout our community. Through practical and elective projects, we strive to encourage school and community involvement to achieve our literacy goals and to afford every young person access to reading materials. Our immediate goal is to place a book into the hands of every child and teen in our community. Our long-term goal is to make reading materials accessible to adolescents not only in Vidor, Texas, but to the surrounding communities as well.
WHO WE ARE AND OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Vidor Literacy Organization is comprised of students from an eleventh-grade Advanced Placement English Language and Composition Class at Vidor High School. Our group has chosen to support a literacy platform, and through the WE Community Service Project sponsored by College Board, we are working to encourage a love of reading among children and teens within our town and surrounding communities. Through the generous donations of civic groups, companies, organizations, and individuals, our foundation is able to purchase books and reading material for in-need children and teens, build and place book boxes throughout Orange County and surrounding communities, and launch the Teen to Teen Mentorship and Virtual Read-to-Me Programs. Literacy strengthens young minds and creates stronger communities.
